South China Morning Post 20 August, 2022 The online advert for a flashy casino job paying HK$200,000 a month proved simply too good to be true. But the young Hongkonger lured to Cambodia with the promise of a croupier job was already in the hands of criminals when he discovered the awful truth that he had fallen prey to an employment scam. While the resident was eventually rescued by police, at least 11 other Hongkongers are being held against their will after becoming victims of similar frauds in Southeast Asian countries, the Security Bureau revealed this week. The bureau launched an inter-departmental task force to oversee efforts to help secure their safe return, while Beijing has pledged to make every effort to protect Chinese citizens abroad.
